The best brand identity design agencies of 2026 compared by tier

TL;DR: Brand identity has the widest price spread in design. Pentagram, Wolff Olins and Siegel+Gale start above $100,000 and run into seven figures. Ramotion, Motto, Mucho and Focus Lab are strong boutiques. Startup identity systems run $8,000 - $25,000, which is our tier - ten brand identities delivered, standalone projects welcome. Subscription services like ManyPixels handle asset production from $699 a month, which is a different product entirely.

How to Read This List

Full disclosure up front: this is our list and we are on it, first. Factor that in. What we can do is be specific about our own work instead of vague, be accurate about everyone else, and name the firms that will serve you better than we will. There are several here and we say which.

We are also not ranking one to twelve. These firms operate in tiers separated by an order of magnitude in price - ranking Pentagram against a startup studio tells you nothing useful. The list is grouped by what each is for.

Brand is the category where founders most often overpay or underbuy, because the spread between tiers is enormous and the difference is genuinely hard to evaluate from outside. A $5,000 identity and a $500,000 one both produce a logo, a palette and a typeface. What differs is strategy depth, system completeness, and how long the result survives contact with growth.

Figures below reflect publicly available pricing as of August 2026. Verify before committing.

What You Are Actually Buying at Each Tier

The most common branding mistake is buying a logo when you needed a system, or buying a system when a logo would have done. These are the tiers.

Logo and basic marks ($500 - $5,000). A mark, some colour, a typeface choice. Appropriate pre-launch when you need something credible and your positioning may still change. Do not confuse this with brand identity.

Startup identity ($5,000 - $25,000). Logo system, palette, typography, basic guidelines, and usually core applications - website, deck, social. This is where most seed-stage companies should sit, and where we work.

Full identity system ($25,000 - $100,000). Positioning and strategy work, comprehensive visual system, illustration or photography direction, voice and tone, thorough guidelines, and often a design system bridge into product. Appropriate at Series A and beyond, or earlier for brand-led consumer companies.

Enterprise brand programme ($100,000 - $1,000,000+). Research, stakeholder alignment across large organisations, naming, architecture across multiple products, global rollout. Pentagram, Wolff Olins and Siegel+Gale operate here.

Subscription brand assets ($699+/month). Ongoing production of collateral within an existing identity. Not identity creation - asset production. Useful after the system exists.

The trap worth naming: buying a $60,000 identity before you know who your customer is. Brand encodes positioning, and positioning you have not validated will be encoded wrong. Our startup brand identity guide covers sequencing this properly.

The Studios

Elysium Designs

Ours. We run a dedicated brand team that takes standalone identity projects - brand is a practice here, not something we only do when it is attached to a product build.

Ten brand identities to date, including Dark, HoH, Knead, Nexura, Prepair, Balance, Diuxlabs, Flourish Labs, Sevra AI and Sprig, alongside a separate body of logo and identity work in our Labs. Typical engagements run $8,000 - $25,000.

Our particular strength is identity that has to survive inside software. Plenty of beautiful brand systems look superb on a deck and fall apart the moment they meet a dense product interface - a palette with no accessible states, a typeface with no small sizes, an illustration style nobody can extend. Because we design product as well, we build identities that hold up on a pitch deck, a marketing site and a data-heavy screen equally. Jether is that problem exactly: making complexity feel manageable, which is a brand question and a product question simultaneously.

You can take that as a standalone identity engagement, or extend it across website and product so everything reads as one company. Both are normal for us - the integration is an option, not a condition.

Right for: B2B SaaS, AI and technology companies wanting a distinctive identity built by people who understand where it has to live. Standalone brand projects welcome.
Wrong for: Enterprise brand programmes needing naming, brand architecture across many products, and global rollout - that is Siegel+Gale and Wolff Olins territory, and honestly so. Large consumer rebrands where DesignStudio has the scale.

Pentagram

The world's largest independent multidisciplinary design consultancy, founded in London in 1972, structured as a collective of partners who lead projects personally. Minimum engagements typically start above $100,000 and full brand programmes can exceed $1 million.

Right for: Organisations wanting genuinely canonical work with a named partner leading it, and the budget and timeline to match.
Wrong for: Almost every startup. Not because the work is unsuitable but because the engagement model assumes scale and process most startups cannot support.

Wolff Olins

Enterprise brand consultancy known for large, strategy-led transformations and bold repositioning work.

Right for: Large organisations undergoing genuine strategic change, where brand follows a business shift.
Wrong for: Companies needing a visual identity rather than a strategic transformation.

Siegel+Gale

Enterprise consultancy built around simplicity as a strategic principle, with strong naming and brand architecture practice.

Right for: Complex enterprises with multiple products needing coherent brand architecture and naming.
Wrong for: Single-product startups. The architecture expertise is the value, and you have no architecture problem yet.

Ramotion

San Francisco agency creating brand identity, marketing websites and product UI, with work for Firefox, Netflix and GitHub. Widely regarded as the most accessible strong option for tech companies with digital product needs, occupying a sharp niche between brand and product design. Focused projects may start around $5,000 - $10,000, with full engagements considerably higher.

Right for: Tech companies wanting brand and product design from one team, particularly when the identity has to work inside a software interface.
Wrong for: Non-tech brands, or purely strategic brand work with no digital component.

Motto

Boutique brand agency combining strategy and identity for companies at inflection points.

Right for: Companies with budget for a full identity engagement who want strategy genuinely integrated rather than bolted on.
Wrong for: Small budgets or purely executional needs.

Mucho

International boutique with offices across several cities, known for craft-led identity systems.

Right for: Brands wanting European design sensibility and strong systematic thinking.
Wrong for: Fast, low-cost turnarounds.

Attic Salt

Boutique identity studio working with companies wanting distinctive, considered brand work.

Right for: Companies with real identity budget who want something with a point of view.
Wrong for: Enterprise-scale rollouts or minimal budgets.

Focus Lab

B2B-focused brand studio with a strong reputation for identity work in technology and software.

Right for: B2B software companies wanting a mature, systematic identity built by a team fluent in the category.
Wrong for: Consumer brands or very early-stage budgets.

DesignStudio

Global agency known for high-profile rebrands and research-led identity programmes.

Right for: Consumer-facing brands undertaking a significant public rebrand.
Wrong for: Early-stage B2B, where the scale of process exceeds the need.

500 Designs

Agency serving startups and mid-market companies across brand and digital, with startup-accessible entry pricing.

Right for: Startups wanting broad capability from one vendor at a moderate price.
Wrong for: Companies wanting deep specialism in identity specifically.

ManyPixels

Not an identity studio - a subscription design service from $699 a month that produces brand assets within an existing system.

Right for: Companies who already have an identity and need steady collateral production without hiring.
Wrong for: Creating an identity. Strategy, positioning and system design are not queue-shaped work. See design subscription vs design agency.

How to Choose, and When to Wait

Brand is unusually easy to buy at the wrong time. Three questions before you shortlist anyone.

Is your positioning settled? Identity encodes positioning into visual form. If you cannot state in one sentence who you are for and why you are different, a designer will either invent an answer or produce something generic. Settle positioning first - it costs nothing but thought and it determines everything downstream.

Do you need identity or applications? Many companies who think they need a rebrand actually need their existing brand applied properly to a website and deck. That is a much cheaper problem.

Will this survive your next two years? A seed-stage identity should be good enough to be credible and flexible enough to evolve. Over-engineering a brand system for a company whose product may pivot is wasted money.

Questions worth asking a shortlisted studio:

  • "What is included in guidelines, and how thorough are they?" Guidelines quality varies enormously and determines whether your team can apply the brand without the agency.
  • "How does this work in product UI?" Many identities look superb on a deck and fall apart in a dense interface. If you are a software company, this is the important question.
  • "What are the file deliverables?" Source files, full weight ranges, and font licensing all matter and are all frequently vague.
  • "Who leads the work?" Particularly relevant at partner-led firms where the named partner may or may not be on your project.

Conclusion

Match the tier to your stage. Pre-launch and still testing positioning: buy a competent logo for a few thousand and move on. Seed or Series A with settled positioning: $8,000 - $25,000 for a real identity system. Brand-led consumer or a major repositioning: $25,000 - $100,000. Enterprise with naming and architecture needs: Pentagram, Wolff Olins or Siegel+Gale, six figures and up.

Canonical partner-led craft: Pentagram or Mucho. Strategy-led enterprise transformation: Wolff Olins. Naming and brand architecture: Siegel+Gale. High-profile consumer rebrand: DesignStudio. B2B software identity: Focus Lab. Already have a brand and need collateral produced: ManyPixels.

And if you want an identity built by a dedicated brand team that also understands product - so it holds up on a deck, a website and a dense interface equally - tell us what you are building. Standalone brand projects are very much our work, not an afterthought to it.
